I'm Neil, a patent and trademark attorney in Toronto, Canada.
I lead the intellectual property function at Shopify. As Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property my role spands spans all aspects of IP. I provide legal advice regarding and supervise the procurement of patents, trademarks, copyrights and industrial designs.
I have supervised the drafting and prosecution of hundreds of patent applications ranging from simple mechanical devices to complex software innovations.
Before I entered the world of law and intellectual property, I worked in software engineering.
